We are celebrating our fourth month as owners of Little Colorado and when asked how the business is going, my usual response is: “It been a roller-coaster” or “a whirlwind.” We have a thousand plans, but like a toddler, for now, we focus on putting one foot in front of the other.
But I bring up the purchase of Little Colorado for a different reason: on this Memorial Day morning, we took a rare break from working and enjoyed our first taste of the wonderful state we expect to call home from now on. The weather forecast was beautiful, so after our morning coffee we set off to Roxborough State Park, where wildflowers of all sorts delight the senses from May through June. They did not disappoint.
We admired the wonderful rock formations as we drove from the gate to the Visitors Center, and as we stepped into the foothills, the first thing that hit us was the increasing volume of insect and bird song. My prose style is insufficient to aptly describe how much we enjoyed the next two hours, so I will let the photos speak for themselves.
Ironically enough, a morning away from work brought home for us the extent to which the wilderness of Colorado and Little Colorado, LLC stand for so much we care deeply about: family, authenticity, sustainability, and freedom. Being out in the Colorado Rockies on a glorious Memorial Day was phenomenal. Colorado is indeed home.
We hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day as well.
