We are required by law to offer toddler bed registration. Toddler beds are one of the few products we make that are regulated by the U.S. government. We are required to safety test them every other year and to keep a registration log of all beds that opt to register.
Our handcrafted furniture suits toddlers and kids between 18 months and 7 years of age. Our customers also tell us they repurpose many of our storage pieces well into the teen years.
In our website’s catalog, each of our product descriptions note whether the merchandise is fully assembled or requires assembly.
You can download and print a PDF version of assembly instructions for your piece of furniture from our website’s catalog. There you will also find explanatory videos for some of our products.
Please identify which part is missing from your merchandise, then e-mail us at customerservice@littlecolorado.com with this information and with the appropriate shipping address.
Because we avoid solvent-based paint, except for products described as outdoor furniture, we do not recommend or guarantee our pieces for outdoor use. Even our outdoor designs will weather best is you do not keep them outside for a prolonged period, and we do not advise placing outdoor furniture in the elements at all if it is unfinished or completed in our natural finish.
MDF is made from post-industrial recycled wood shavings and chips that result from cutting wood into lumber; this process allows wood manufacturers to derive the greatest use from every tree. Wood fibers and scraps are then fused together with a finder, under heat and pressure, to create sheets. Our MDF products are made from CARB Phase 2 (California Air Resources Board)-compliant materials, and we only use Plum Creek brand MDF, the best in the industry and certified for no added formaldehyde. We observe the highest standard of current regulations, requiring that emissions of formaldehyde to be less than 0.05 parts per million (less than 0.000005%).
Our Baltic birch plywood is also CARB Phase 2-compliant and without formaldehyde. It is harvested from sustainable forests. Baltic birch is indigenous to the Baltic Seas area in northern Europe and has traditionally been used to manufacture cabinetry. It has a beautiful, light color with a fine grain. Because it contains multiple layers, compared to other plywood, its strength and flexibility are superior, and it runs less danger of warping than does other plywood.
Our MDF is as close to formaldehyde-free as you can get. We use the best MDF you can buy, Plum Creek brand, which is CARB Phase 2 (California Air Resources Board)-compliant. Technically, CARB Phase 2-compliant means formaldehyde to be less than 0.05 parts per million (less than 0.000005%). There is no formaldehyde added in the manufacturing process, only what would have been naturally occurring in the wood.
The answer depends on the specific merchandise you have purchased, but we work hard to ensure that assembly is a quick and easy process. Partially constructed products like our Arts & Crafts Table may take only 15 minutes to complete, while larger, more complicated and fully unassembled items like our Classic Wardrobe could take up to an hour. The time needed for furniture assembly will also be impacted by your own level of expertise—and whether a family member or friend can provide assistance.

In the context of toddler furniture, “heirloom-quality” signifies two primary elements. We use solid wood, rather than particle board and a plastic veneer. We also design our toddler and kids’ furniture to incorporate elements that reinforce the strength and durability of our products. The quality of our source wood and the stability of our design features ensure that our toddler and kids’ furniture will stand up to multi-generational play, from parent, to child, to grandchild.
